About Us

Benny M. LaRussa, Jr is the Chairman and CEO of StoneRiver Company, LLC. He has been exposed to all forms of real estate investing including multi family, office, industrial warehouse, retail, and timber and mining operations. Since 1988, the acquisition, disposition and management of real estate assets has been a major focus of Benny’s professional career. His career began in the banking and finance sector where he worked at the First National Bank of Birmingham (now Regions Bank). He later became a founding member of the First Commercial Bank and Canterbury Trust both of which were sold to Synovus Financial Corporation in the 90’s. Benny M. LaRussa, Jr is the Chairman and CEO of StoneRiver Company, LLC. Benny currently serves on the Board of Directors of First Commercial Bank, Jack’s Family Restaurants, Security Engineers, StoneRiver Company, LLC, Fenwick Brands, LLC, America Pipe and Supply, and the Auburn University Foundation as well as Chairman of the Joseph S. Bruno Charitable Foundation. He was a director of Bruno’s Corporation until 1995 when the company was sold to KKR.

Benny is a graduate of Auburn University with a BS in Finance and a Master’s in Public and Private Business from Birmingham Southern College.

Joseph Welden is a Birmingham native and President of StoneRiver Company, LLC. He joined the company in 2004. His responsibilities include strategic leadership, identifying and assessing new and existing investments, leasing and brokerage, and managing the operations of StoneRiver Company, LLC and StoneRiver Property Management, LLC. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Innovation Depot, a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, and former President of the Junior Board of Directors for the Birmingham Zoo.

Joseph graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with a B.A. in Mathematical Economics. He earned a Masters in Financial Mathematics from Florida State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Alabama.

Diane Chastain is the company Vice President overseeing StoneRiver's national portfolio of communities. As the lead connector and strategist, she is responsible for driving cross-functional effectiveness and collaboration across the company to create a superior living experience for our residents and bring the highest level of performance to our investors.

She is a 20+ year respected business leader with the rare experience combination of executive level strategic and operational roles with proven success in Property Operations, Talent Development and corporate support for a nationally recognized REIT and private ownership. Before joining StoneRiver, Diane was the National Director of Operations at FirstKey Homes and directed all property management functions for the organization.

Prior to that she served 17 years as a Senior Vice President for Mid-America Apartment Communities in the Southeast.

Diane attended the University of West Georgia. She is a 17-year CPM member of the Institute of Real Estate Management and achieved her CAPS designation in 2002 from The National Apartment Association.

Colin Moorhouse joined StoneRiver Company, LLC in 2016 as the Vice President and General Counsel. Colin’s responsibilities include all legal aspects of StoneRiver’s real estate developments, acquisitions and divestitures, as well as overseeing the Company’s risk management disciplines. 

Before joining the StoneRiver team, Colin was a partner in the Banking and Corporate groups at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP.   Colin graduated from Randolph-Macon College (Ashland, Virginia) with degrees in Business / Economics & Political Science, and he received his law degree from the University Of Maryland School Of Law (Baltimore, Maryland).

Lou Davis joined StoneRiver Company in 2017 as Director of Investments. Lou oversees the sourcing, acquisition and development of the Company’s real estate investments. Prior to joining StoneRiver Company, he was Director of Investments with Cortland Partners. He opened and staffed their office in Charlotte, North Carolina in addition to identifying real estate acquisitions that met their investment criteria. Prior to Cortland, Lou spent six years with Wells Real Estate Funds, a real estate REIT in Atlanta, GA. He held various positions while at Wells with duties that included a vigorous acquisition/disposition platform for multi-family and Class A office space. Lou graduated Cum Laude at the University of Kentucky with a BBA in Finance and Management.

Kenny Budd joined StoneRiver Company in December of 2015 as a Real Estate Analyst. His responsibilities include sourcing, investment analysis, underwriting, and diligence for all acquisitions and development opportunities. He is also involved in recapitalizations, dispositions and overall asset management within StoneRiver's real estate portfolio. Previously, Kenny was with Grandbridge Real Estate Capital where he was involved in the production of over $165 million in multifamily and commercial loan originations.

He also has prior experience in multifamily investment sales and office tenant representation. Kenny graduated from The University of Alabama with a BBA in Finance with a Real Estate concentration and is currently pursuing an Executive MBA from Emory University - Goizueta Business School. Kenny serves on various committees of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham and enjoys coaching youth football in the fall.

Brett Mendell joined StoneRiver Company, LLC as Asset Manager in 2018. Brett leads StoneRiver’s effort to drive asset performance, ensuring that each asset achieves its business plan. His role includes management of renovation projects, generation of operational and transactional analyses, and coordination of investor and lender communications.

Prior to joining StoneRiver, LLC Brett spent six years serving in Asset Management roles at Landmark Properties in Athens, Georgia, a national student housing developer and operator and TriBridge Residential in Atlanta, Georgia, a regional multifamily developer and operator. Brett spent the early part of his career practicing commercial and real estate litigation in several firms in San Francisco and Atlanta. Brett graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Cornell University with a Master of Real Estate. Brett also earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Katie Roncadori joined StoneRiver Property Management in 2017 to support the company’s national activities as Regional Operations Manager.  Katie has a strong real estate background, most recently having led a team through a $2.7 Million Dollar renovation.  Prior to joining SRPM she served Engel Realty in Leasing, Management and Marketing and TriBridge Residential as a Community Manager.  She has a proven track record as a dedicated manager with a strong work ethic and the ability to build lasting client relations, while keeping the owners’ interests in mind.  Key areas of expertise include systematized operations, creation and implementation of budgets, staff development, revenue enhancement, cost control and problem solving.  She is a Birmingham, Alabama native and proud graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Regional Operations Manager

Brittany Romei joined StoneRiver Property Management in 2018 as the Regional Training and Development Manager. As part of the Regional Operations team, she will provide support in areas of training and development, rent renewal and new lease rent evaluation, as well as marketing support.  She will assist in the laser focused efforts of the Regional Operations team to provide training and support to our Regional Managers and on-site Managers to build out programs of success in leasing, marketing, retention, collections, turnkey, and maintenance.

 

Brittany comes to us with 10 years of on-site experience. Prior to joining SRPM she worked for MAA for 8 years, most recently at Eagle Ridge Apartments in Birmingham, AL where she maintained an exceptionally high standard of performance on her asset.  She is a native of Birmingham, AL.

Regional Training and Development Manager

Jan Brown joined StoneRiver Property Management in 2017, as a Regional Manager. She brings with her over 18 years’ experience in property management, having previously served with LMS Real Estate Investment Management in Birmingham as the Regional Manager and Special Projects Coordinator overseeing 1100 units. She holds her CAM (Certified Apartment Manager), and holds a BS from The University of Alabama. She is a native of Birmingham, AL.

Kimberly Borst joined StoneRiver Property Management in 2018 as a Regional Manager.  She brings with her over 20 years Property Management experience, 15 of those in Training and Marketing.  Prior to joining the SRPM, she served as Regional Manager for Arbour Valley Management for 4 years, Director of Marketing and Training with Arlington Properties for 6 years and an Area Manager/Start Trainer with Colonial Properties for 8 years. She holds her CAM (Certified Apartment Manager) along with a BS Degree from The University of Montevallo.  Kimberly is a native of Birmingham, AL.

Don Lewellyn joined StoneRiver Property Management in 2017 as the Capital Improvements Manager. Don has over 20 years of Construction and Project Management Experience. His responsibilities include ensuring that capital expenditures are facilitated in a manner that will improve value on rents, resident retention and ultimately reduce maintenance operating costs at the properties for extended Net Operating Income improvement.  He also works to ensure a smooth and streamlined due diligence process for all acquisitions and dispositions. Prior to Stoneriver Don Worked for Elmington Property Management in Nashville, TN and The Habitat Company in Chicago, IL. He is the 2015 AEE Energy Engineer of the Year in Indianapolis, IN. He is a native of Indianapolis, IN.

Capital Improvements Manager

Jeremy Bowie joined StoneRiver Property Management in 2013. With over 20 years of onsite maintenance experience, Jeremy serves as the Regional Maintenance Manager of StoneRiver Property Management and is responsible for all maintenance operations for the multifamily and office divisions. Jeremy oversees vendor contracts and directly supports all maintenance personnel. He is a native of Pell City, AL and is a graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Meredith Lagan joined StoneRiver Property Management, LLC in 2018 as Controller.  Meredith oversees the day to day operations of the accounting department and regularly interfaces with financial institutions and other outside consultants concerning existing and future assets.  Prior to joining SRPM, Meredith was the Vice President of Accounting for a medical real estate development/ property management firm.  Her focus is continual process development and improvement that bring added value for our residents and our investors.  She has over 19 years of accounting experience and received a B.S. in Accounting from the School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Meredith is a CPA in the state of Alabama.

Todd Adkison joined StoneRiver Company, LLC in 2018 as Director of Finance.  Todd’s responsibilities include financial leadership and analysis, as well as oversight of Accounting Operations for StoneRiver Company, LLC and StoneRiver Property Management, LLC.

Prior to joining StoneRiver Company, LLC, Todd served as Chief Financial Officer in the commercial real estate sector leading numerous acquisition and dispositions.  Todd is an Alabama native, Certified Public Accountant, and a graduate of Auburn University with a Master of Tax Accounting degree from the University of Alabama.  He spent twenty years in public accounting with international, regional and local firms. Todd has served on multiple civic and city school boards.  Todd is a Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow and past President.

Johnathan Markwood is the Accounting Manager for StoneRiver Property Management, LLC. He joined the company in 2013 and is responsible for the finance and accounting functions for StoneRiver Company, LLC and StoneRiver Property Management, LLC. Johnathan is a native of Birmingham, AL and a graduate of Samford University, where he earned his B.A. in Accounting and obtained his CPA certification. He is a member of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA).
